A hint of a particle that may or may not be the long sought after Higgs boson has been found in the data from two different experiments on different continents. The Large Hadron Collider on the French-Swiss border and the Tevatron machine near Chicago have both seen what can only be described at best as hints of a particle that could be the Higgs boson.
The Higgs boson, or God particle as it is sometimes known, is the last particle of the standard model that has yet to be observed. It is needed to explain how and why other particles gain their mass!
These hints have been seen before and also disappeared after further analysis of the huge amount of data that these experiments produce. Whether or not this is the first glimpse of this elusive and still hypothetical particle remains to be seen.
